How to choose a handmade Persian carpet

Every carpet on this page is hand-knotted, which means a weaver tied each knot individually around the warp threads. That is why the pattern is visible on the reverse side and why no two pieces are identical. Machine-made rugs cannot do this, and it is the first thing we show visitors at the showroom.

The name of the weaving city tells you what to expect. Qum is known for pure silk with very fine knotting, often 600 knots per square inch and above, which gives a luminous surface and crisp detail. Tabriz produces wool pile on a silk or cotton foundation, prized for medallion and hunting designs that suit large majlis and living rooms. Isfahan and Nain use fine wool with silk highlights in ivory and blue palettes. Kashan is the classic red-and-navy floral carpet. Afghan pieces, woven by Turkmen and Baluch families, are heavier, warmer in colour and priced more accessibly.

Each carpet leaves the showroom with a written certificate stating its origin, materials and knot density. What you see here is a selection. Our Sharjah showroom holds over 500 pieces, and if you are visiting from Dubai we will collect you from your hotel at no charge.
